Kedi - Please Watch it if you can !

Cast : Nagarjuna, Mamatha Mohandas,Shayaji Shindey, Ankur,Nirmal Pandey (Late)
Music : Sandeep Chowta
Story,Screenplay & Direction : Kiran Kumar
Since long, I have been thinking to share my opinions on the films that I watch. Frankly I dont want to call them as reviews, because I am not a professional to review any film maker's work.

Recently I have watched Nagarjuna's latest flick "Kedi" in Big Cinemas. I was eagerly waiting for that film after listening to the audio. The film's audio choreographed by Sandeep Chowta clicked instantly for me. All the 9 songs were like slow poison and can be remembered for long.

Finally the release date has been announced as February 12th 2010. My younger brother (Kranthi) along with his friends watched the premiere show at 2 AM the previous night. All of them were pretty much disappointed to watch Nag in a film like this. They were deeply hurt and had long discussions during the whole day about this film. My brother (Kiran ) watched the film and told me that it is a slow paced movie with a good content. Incidentally , I have spoken with some people who have watched this on the release day. The responses were completely against the film. Finally I prepared my mind saying that whatever it is I will watch it.

The film started with a narration style similar to Slumdog Millionnaire. The childhood episode was an honest attempt. The scenes involving the boy and girl in Guntur are shot realistically in the well known locations of Guntur. As the movie progresses , I felt it is lacking the needed pace and could nt hook us up with the story. The real surprise came in the form of Mamatha Mohandas character. She was forcefully married to a local goon by her relatives. During her first night, she was asked by this guy to shed down the clothes as she enters the bedroom . She was embarrassed with this behaviour and asks her mother " పెళ్ళంటే ఇంతేనా ? " (Is this called a marriage). I liked the scene immensely. It shows the shock of a newly wed girl where in her expectations or respect on a marriage are shattered. After few days, this guy dies due to his ill habits and then she decides to meet her childhood lover (who is obviously our hero). I was amazed to see such a bold scene in our regular commercial Telugu films. From here the story goes here and there and finally our hero accepts his lady love and the film ends there.

The movie looks good in parts. The photography, music (songs only), art work and the locales were awesome. On a whole it disappointed the audience as the narration couldnt be weaved properly. But definitely this director can prove his credentials by gaining little experience in the direction department. Good Luck to Kiran !

If you are really interested to watch new work learn from a film's failure, its a recco for you. Please watch it if you can !
